While the iPad seems like a neat concept (an ipod touch but much bigger) for playing games on, I personally cannot see it taking off into some kind of new fad within the gaming world. As a developer, like Epic Games in the article, I would be very skeptical of this product and jumping on the bandwagon to produce games for it. It is true that the mobile world is becoming more and more popular in the palms of “in your hands” gaming fanatics…but, I just don’t see how carrying around this laptop-size computer is going to spearhead the new-age of mobile gaming.

I think the idea of the iPad is very innovative and new. The fact that you can play games with a touch screen is a cool concept. I dont think I will ever get one or be interested in one. Like it says in the article it’s in between an iTouch and a MacBook, I have both so why would I need something that is in between. I think there was a wait-and-see factor included in this new idea. It is a new product and seems to be doing well but that’s because the hype of a new product. I want to see if it actually becomes a success. It would be cool if Apple could make a touch screen keyboard for their line of computers and laptops, and you could play games, type, and use design applications with ease. I hope that one day this idea becomes a reality because I’m sure it would make a lot of lives easier.

I think the iPad can be something that could grow. Especially in the gaming community, it will give more designers another way to make games and possibly even expand some games with the iPad. I think that it will be something that slowly starts to grow because of the fact that nobody knows how well games can be made for it. I think that if the iPad takes off like the iPhone and iTouch then it will be a great idea. The iPad also can be used for so many other purposes as well for business, and schools, and for everyone who will use it.

This is just something random that was pointed out at my internship. I work with WKBW, an ABC affiliate, and they worry that with internet being so easily at hand and the additions of online television-you can get most shows-now legally-online the hour they go on air. With things like Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog proving media can get attention solely put out online, many worry networks will become things of the past. My nephew’s family even has no television instead using computers-and their son a mini laptop at 4 years old.
They blame a lot of this easy publicity and knowledge and sharing on technology at hand, such as the I-Phone. people use the internet and have easier access to it than anything else. With the I-Pad having a screen you can actually see, they worry about that taking control over network online portable television more than I-Phone’s small screen.

The fact that apple realeased a device such as the iPad is very interesting to me. I honestly believe they did not really need to release such a device because it is in between an iTouch and a Macbook. But it is an interesting device none the less. The idea of bringing games to the iPad seems like a good idea considering the fact that it has a touch screen. I personally don’t think it’s a good idea because most gamers are still use to playing on a console or gaming machine of some sort. It is true that there are games on cell phones now and on iPods, but most gamers play on a gaming system. I am use to playing on a system meant for games, not on my cell phone, but I do find it very interesting that I can play games on my phone. It definentley shows the step technology has taken where games can now be mobile. I also think this is great news for the unity engine that developers are looking into making games for the iPad. According to them, unity games seem to work well on the iPad as well. “especially considering the iPad appears to already run iPhone games well.” I think its good for gaming as a whole, more competition makes other developers and companies work harder. The harder they work, the more innovations we will see and wonderful games will be released. Everybody wins in a sense but that is only if games on the iPad takes off. I believe it is going to be difficult for the iPad to have success with mobile games considering that there are so many mobile gaming devices on the market right now. PSP, Nintendo DS, iPhone, Droid by Google, there are a lot of mobile devices capable of gaming. If the iPad does have success however, the gaming industry will most certainly be impacted in a positive way and we will see a lot more innovation from developers with games, and companies with gaming devices.
